Thrive

"Thrive" began in 1999 as a support group for parents with special needs children. Elaine Haugen, Parish Health Minister at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church began facilitating monthly meetings, discussion groups, and educational events. Later, the group joined with a similar support group from First United Methodist Church. Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside of Iowa soon offered the use of their wonderful facilities. Thus, the "Thrive Recreation and Support Group" was launched in 2002. "Thrive" continues to grow quickly and currently we have approximately twenty families involved.

The "Thrive Recreation and Support Group" meets monthly. This group is a non-denominational group and provides an opportunity for the entire family to participate in activities with their special needs child(ren). Recreation includes monthly activities such as swimming, bowling, nature walks, seasonal parties, bonfires, fishing, and the kids' favorite....taking a spin on the Jolly Wagon at Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside. Support includes educational seminars, discussion groups, and a chance to meet other local families with special needs children. Reasonable fees may be charged to cover any activity expenses, but no family will be turned away.
