Just what does a Parish Steward do? That
seems to be a fair question, since this isn’t a job title you’ll find in
the business world. As Parish Steward I deal with many of the business
aspects of our large congregation in a way that honors God and the
members of the congregation. My areas of responsibility include payroll,
contributions, accounts payable, financial reporting, personnel, trust
committee, stewardship, property management and risk management. From
that list you can guess that everyday is different and that I work with
many different members of the staff and congregation to accomplish my
job. That’s what makes it so interesting!
As a CPA/MBA I never dreamed that God would call
me to full time work in His church. However, after a number of years at
a Fortune 500 company and a few years at home with my kids, I had the
opportunity to work in a similar position at Faith Lutheran Church in
Clive. After three years on staff in Clive, the opportunity opened up at
HTLC in 1999, Dick Rasmussen asked me to apply and the rest is history.
The building project quickly turned a part time position into a full
time one and I have been busy ever since!
The challenge in my position is to always see and
be sensitive to the people and ministry behind the numbers. It is
important to be a good steward of the gifts that are given and to make
sure that the facility is cared for in a way that makes it welcoming and
that people and programs are supported and empowered in ministry. |

I am the newest staff member at Holy Trinity. I am so excited to join
with the staff and congregational members of Holy Trinity to be about
God’s work in Ankeny. My job is to make ministry for children happen,
programs such as Church School on Sundays and Wednesdays and Vacation
Bible School in June will be my primary duties.
We have, as of last count, 587 preschool through sixth grade students
enrolled in four weekly sessions of Church School. As I meet the
students here, I am encouraged and excited about the future of the
church. As long as we continue to be diligent about equipping parents to
live out the baptismal promises of bringing their children to worship
and raising them to lead a godly life, I believe that these kids are up
for it. They are bright, engaged and excited to be a part of their
church.
I grew up in Parkersburg, Iowa at Bethel Lutheran Church. One of my
earliest memories is winding myself up in the red velvet curtains that
served as the room dividers in our little Sunday School. Although those
red velvet curtains were sort of musty and dusty they were also a very
physical symbol of the safety and friendship that enveloped me at Bethel
Lutheran. The people of that congregation have been a part of all of the
significant memories of my formative years. Maybe that is part of
growing up in a small town, church people were everywhere. I hope that
in 10, 15 and 20 years the children of Holy Trinity can also point to
their church home as the source of strong ties and pleasant memories.
Moving to Ankeny allows me to be closer to my mother, sister and her
family in Pella, where you will find me watching the Tulip Time parades
each May.
I have a Bachelors Degree in Communications and Theater from Central
College in Pella. I have two years graduate school at Luther
Northwestern Seminary in St Paul, MN part of which was serving as Youth
Minister at St Stephan’s in West St Paul. My first full-time call was as
Youth Director at Calvary Lutheran in Willmar, MN. I served as Director
of Youth & Education at St John’s in Cedar Falls, IA and Director of
Family Ministry at Bethel in Rochester, MN. Most recently I served with
the good folks of Eldridge, Iowa as Director of Youth & Family Ministry
at Faith Lutheran.
A couple of favorites; Bible story~ Noah’s Ark, Hymn~ Have No Fear
Little Flock #764. I am excited to be a part of this congregation…it’s a
vibrant place, filled with life.

Mike joined Holy Trinity in the late summer
of 2003. He grew up on a small farm outside Mount Ayr, a small town in
south central Iowa. He graduated in 1978 from Mount Ayr Community High
School and attended Graceland College (now called Graceland University)
in Lamoni, Iowa. He graduated in 1982 with a triple BS in mathematics,
computer science, and computer engineering, and a minor in physics.
Mike then took a job as a computer engineer in a company called TRW
(recently purchased by Northrop Grumman) in Redondo Beach, California
(just south of Los Angeles). He met his wife, Lori, who was also a
Computer Engineer at TRW in 1991 and they were married in 1993. They
moved to Bellevue, Nebraska in 1995 after the birth of their first
child, Elizabeth Grace, and Mike worked as a consultant for TRW in the
USSTRATCOM Air Force Base. In 1998, Lori and Mike welcomed their second
child, Jennifer Pearl.
In 2000, the Eason family moved to Dubuque, Iowa where Mike attended
Wartburg Theological Seminary as he believed God was calling him in a
new direction with the church. David Michael was added to the family in
2002 and Mike graduated from seminary with an MA degree in 2003. Mike
hopes to someday be a rostered Diaconal Minister in the ELCA. |
